You'll find us ight on the western shore of Walney Island. Earnse Bay is the heart of the local kitesurfing scene. With our wide, sandy beach and consistent winds, it’s perfect for riders of all levels. Even if you don't fancy kitesurfing, it’s a great place to watch the action, get an ice cream, have a refreshingly windy walk, or enjoy a sunset.
A must-visit for wildlife lovers, South Walney Nature Reserve is home to grey seals, wading birds, and stunning coastal scenery. Wander along the trails, bring your binoculars, and take in the peaceful side of the island.
Just a short boat trip from Roa Island, Piel Island is full of history, with the ruins of a medieval castle and the legendary Ship Inn, where the landlord is still traditionally known as the ‘King of Piel’. It’s a fantastic place for a pint with a view.
Step back in time at Furness Abbey, a stunning set of 12th-century ruins just a short drive from Walney. It’s an atmospheric spot to explore and learn about the area’s rich history.
For a glimpse into Barrow’s shipbuilding past, the Dock Museum is well worth a visit. Built into an old dry dock, it showcases the town’s maritime heritage, with fascinating exhibits and interactive displays.
If you love a good walk, the Cumbria Coastal Path runs through the area, offering stunning sea views and a chance to take in Walney’s diverse landscapes. Whether you want a short stroll or a longer trek, there’s plenty to explore.

A little further afield but worth the trip, Roanhead Beach boasts golden sands and is part of the Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve. It’s a great spot for a peaceful walk or a paddle in the shallows. It's also home to lots of wildlife and amazing sand dunes to explore.
The King Alfred on Walney offers hearty pub classics and a relaxed atmosphere. The Crown, North Scale is another solid choice, with a welcoming vibe and a selection of real ales. If you're just after a takeaway, Andys Chippy on Walney is a winner and If you’re in Barrow, Stollers serves up a good breakfast, lunch and drinks. For a quick bite, Kapadokya does fantastic Turkish dishes, May's Thai Treats and Salvanas are local favourites for Thai or Italian treats.
If you fancy a change of scene, the Lake District is just a short drive away. Head to Coniston Water or Windermere for more watersports, or explore charming towns like Ambleside and Grasmere for a taste of classic Cumbria.
